It’s Friday, y’all! And, it’s only one month from Valentine’s day. Since I don’t do a ton of decorating for this holiday, I only have one little wall with a couple of “Valentine-y” items. My cuteΒ XOXO Valentine Ombre Wall Art needed a little something with it, so I created a pretty little heart garland to go above it! Β Instead of using flat paper hearts, I wanted my garland to have a little more dimension. I have seen some adorable t.p. roll crafts in the past, so I thought I’d take a stab at creating something using them!
To make your own T.P. roll heart garland, you will need:
- Toilet paper rolls (alternatively, you could use paper towel rolls)
- Pink paint
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Needle
- Thread
- Pom poms
Start by painting the outside of the t.p. rolls with the pink paint.
When they are dried, fold t.p. rolls down enough to cut “strips.” Mine were about 1/2 inch thick. I used only about one and a half of my t.p. rolls, and it made 11 hearts.
After you cut your desired amount, paint the inside of each little roll. Otherwise, as you can see above, they’ll have numbers inside and won’t look quite finished. I painted the inside of mine a little lighter pink than the outside, for a little extra dimension. But you really can’t tell when it’s all said and done. π
Once dry, fold the little rolls in “half.” One of the folds will be the bottom of the heart. Push the top fold down to make the heart shape. Repeat this with all the rolls. I also dabbed some more pink paint to the very tips all the way around the hearts, where the scissors had cut them.
Thread your needle with a very long piece of thread. I used red thread for a little color. Double the thread so it’s a thicker to hold the weight of the garland, and tie the end off. Make sure it’s long enough to hold all your hearts and pom poms, and have enough slack for hanging!
Push the needle through one side of the heart, and continue pushing through the t.p. roll at a straight line, so it goes through the middle sections as well.
Pull the needle all the way through, and your first heart is on! The string won’t be perfectlyΒ straight through the hearts, but my OCD self got over it pretty quickly after seeing how cute the end result was.
Thread on a pom pom, and then another heart. Or, you can add two or three pom poms between hearts. Whatever you’d like! I only used my white pom poms, despite the red poms being shown in the materials picture. I thought it matched better with the XOXO wall art. I really wish they made gold pom poms. Or do they?!? Ahh I should have spray painted them. NOW I think of that, after the fact, of course. Anyway…
Tie it to a couple of nails, Β and your pretty heart garland is complete! It’s the perfect little touch above my XOXO Valentine Ombre Wall Art!
And, you can’t even tell they are t.p. rolls. π
How do you decorate for Valentine’s day?
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
