Hi, friends! Time for another super easy fall craft. I had this cute basket that I wanted to do something with, but didn’t know what. I was thinking of using it for some fall flowers, but I just wasn’t sold on the idea. I was studying the basket and turned it upside down thinking I could use it as a stand and thought, “hmm, if I added a little wooden stem and a leaf on top, it looks like a pumpkin!” And so, my basket pumpkins were born.
I grabbed one of my best friends (spray paint!) and visited the other (Goodwill!) and found two more baskets, and the magic began.
To make your own, you’ll need (I only have the baskets and paint shown in the picture!):
3 baskets, different sizes
spray paint (I used 3 different colors)
3 cut pieces of a tree branch
Green patterned cardstock
Scissors
Glue gun & glue sticks
Double sided tape
Green wire
You’ll start by spray painting your pumpkins. I had planned to do a gold, orange, and an almond colored pumpkin, but my brand new almond spray paint decided to not work, so I improvised. I painted it white instead, and the orange spray paint I used for the one above was just about out so I spritzed the paint from far away so it left just a super light splattering of orange over the white. I love it when you have no clue what you’re doing and it turns out cute anyway!
While those dry, find 3 branches and cut as needed. I just hot glued them on top of each basket.
Take your green paper, then draw and cut out 3 leaves in the shape you want. If your paper was only one sided like mine, I folded the paper in half and drew the leaf from the crease so that when I cut it out, I had two leaves connected that I could just fold in half. I taped them together.
Fold each leaf in half to give it a crease, and then tape 3 leaves together overlapping just a bit to create one larger looking leaf. I hot glued them right up to the pumpkin stem.
Then take your green floral wire to make the coils. I had to double up my wire because it was so thin. I used a highlighter to wrap it around because I wanted a looser coil, but you could also just use your finger. Leave a few inches of wire straight at the end. After carefully removing the coiled wire from the pen, use the extra few inches to wrap around the base of the wooden stem.
Finished! Now display these baskets posing as cute little pumpkins somewhere nice!
I love the real wood stem, it really gives it some character!
I told you I’d sneak more gold in my fall decor somehow! There may even be MORE to come… but that’s for another day. 🙂
I really like how you can see very subtle orange splatterings on this one!
I still have more fall decorating to do, but I’m well on my way! Stay tuned for my command center reveal coming soon!
This last week I shared a tutorial on how to make some cute woodland animal wall decor for a nursery. I also am finally getting in the spirit of fall, and made a cute simple gold-dipped leaf banner as well!

It’s Friday! Okay, you’re the first to hear me say it, but; I’m finally getting a little excited for fall. And, all the fall things! So, because I’m slowly getting ready, I’ve been bringing out fall things to start decorating. My first decor item is this cute and super simple gold dipped leaf banner!
I’m totally obsessing with the color gold lately, so I’m thinking a lot of my fall decorations will have some sort of gold in it. Hence, gold dipped leaves! You’ll probably see me sneak gold into some other fall decor projects I’ll post, too.
This cute little banner took me literally 30 minutes from start to finish, painting/drying time included. Who doesn’t love a quick project?
You will need:
Fake leaves (Dollar Tree!)
Gold spray paint
Twine
Small clothespins
Gold washi tape
Scissors
I started by spray painting the leaves. I used a piece of cardboard that had a flap, so I could put my leaf down where I wanted, put the flap over half, and then spray. Easy peasy, took me 5 minutes. I also spray painted the backs, just because I was putting my banner across a mirror.
While those dried, I used the gold washi tape and put pieces on one side of the clothespin. The tape was actually wide enough to do two, so I’d fit the clothespin all the way to one side, cut off the excess, and then just put that on the next clothespin.
By then the leaves were dried, and it was time to hang. I used some twine to hang them from, and finished! That may have even been less than 30 minutes, but I gave some extra time to grab a snack or something in there. 🙂
Gold is oh so pretty, and I love seeing it reflected in the mirror!
You could also paint the leaves a uniform color beforehand, like white or aqua or something fun. Maybe I’ll play around a little more later.
My first fall decor of the season. Simple, quick, and cute! Unfortunately I don’t have many places to hang it, so on the mirror it stays. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend, friends! I just might decorate for fall even more over the weekend. We’ll see. 🙂

Happy Hump Day!
Today I have a super cute and incredibly easy tutorial for you all. If you read my post on the camping themed baby shower my sister and I threw for my cousin Courtney, then you know I mentioned making some cute wall art for her little baby Winston and Theodore’s room. (If you missed the camping themed shower post, you can read about it here.) The boys will be sharing a room for now, and my cousin wanted to keep it outdoorsy. So, I came up with an adorable woodland animal wall art project for them! You seriously will not believe just how easy these were to make.
The best part of this project is that it only cost me about $7 to make! Courtney is all about being thrifty and reusing, so I knew she’d be happy to hear it was so inexpensive. I got the frames at Goodwill, and the paper and animals at Joann’s.
Here’s what you need to make your own woodland animal nursery art:
3 frames
3 pieces wood printed scrapbooking paper
3 pieces same colored scrapbooking paper
3 pieces same colored scrapbooking paper (different from other 3)
3 wooden painted animals (From Joann’s in wood section)
Paint (I used the blue paint that matched their room)
First, I took the glass out of the frames and gave them two coats of blue paint.
While they dried, I cut the wo0d printed paper to fit the frame by tracing the cardboard that sits behind the glass. Alternatively, you could just trace the glass. I used my Cricut Trimmer to cut all the paper so it was perfectly straight.
At first, I was just going to use green paper for behind the two outside frames behind the animals, but I felt that the middle framed animal would look random having just a blue background with a blue frame. So, then I decided to use a green “border” behind the blue for just the middle frame. But, my oh so smart hubby said it would look even better if I then added a blue border around the outside frame’s animals to help make them pop and have it look more uniform. Who would have thought he’d have such a great idea when it came to my crafting?!
He was totally right! So, I ended up cutting 2 green and I blue rectangle all the same size to glue the animals onto, and then I cut 2 blue and 1 green paper to act as a “border” to go behind. I didn’t really measure how big I wanted them to be, I just eyeballed the size while laying one of the wooden animals in the middle.
After you cut all the rectangles, you’re ready to tape and glue. I also eyeballed where the center was and taped the rectangles down, then glued the wooden animals on top in the center.
Then, put them into the frames without the glass, aaaaaaand… you’re done! Wasn’t that so incredibly easy?
Aren’t these little wooden animals so cute? And for only $.59 each, that’s dirt cheap. And they were already painted!
You can use any colors you want when making these, and you don’t even have to paint the frames! I decided to because Courtney has white walls that she can’t paint, and needed some more color. These will look so adorable in their little outdoorsy woodland nursery!
I hope you all have a great rest of the week!
What colors would you use if you were to make these?
Happy Monday! Wow the weekends fly by so fast! Are you following me on Pinterest? I’ve got great Fall and Halloween boards to give you a little inspiration! I’m finally (sort of) getting in the fall mood and getting ready to decorate a little. Have you started decorating yet?
Thank you to everyone who linked up last week! I seriously love looking through all the beautiful DIY’s and projects you all come up with.
This past week and weekend have been so busy, and as a result, I was only able to get out one post. Last weekend, my sister and I threw a super cute camping themed baby shower for my cousin! It was so fun, and I was so happy with how it turned out! There’s even a little printable, too. 🙂

This week, I am in LOVE with this gorgeous wood plank coffee table by Melanie from Melanie Gets Married! I absolutely love the look of the dark wood planks, with the contrasting white chalk painted bottom. Melanie just used an old table she already had, sanded it down, and glued on the planks. Incredibly easy! It looks great in their living room, too!

Hi, friends! Happy almost weekend! Things are finally calming down a little around here. Our holiday weekend was a super busy one. As you can see, we threw a camping themed baby shower for my cousin. It was really more of a “sprinkle,” as this is their second boy and didn’t need much. But still, any excuse I have to decorate and plan a party I’m totally okay with!
My cousin’s first son had a bear/outdoorsy theme to his nursery, and since the two boys will have to share a room, we wanted to keep the theme going. I made a few cute wall decor items for their wall which I will share next week. They are SO easy and SO cute! You’ll have to check back and see what I made. We wanted to keep the outdoor feel and go with a camping theme for this shower.
The first thing I knew I wanted for this shower were stumps to act not only as decor, but food stands. We have a bunch of construction going on behind our house and there were trees that were just cut down, so I asked a few of the workers if they could cut me some stumps. So nice of them to do it, and they worked perfectly! And it was free! Double yay!
I cut burlap scraps for under the stumps as to not scratch the table. I found moss at the dollar store and sprinkled it around the table for some more added flair. I had made mason jar candles last summer for our patio, so I used those as well for a little extra lighting. I also had been collecting pine cones from around the neighborhood to use in the decor. I was totally that crazy person hoarding pine cones underneath the stroller as my daughter and I went on walks each day. But hey, it was totally worth it. I laid the pine cones around the table and other places.
My sister not only made the invitations, but also all the cute little wooden-looking food labels as well. They worked perfectly on the table!
Since the shower was in the evening, we chose to make it a dessert shower. As far as food, all desserts were s’mores related. We made no-bake s’mores bars, s’mores cookie bars, and a s’mores skillet dip! It was all to die for, I’m telling you.
Oh, hello marshmallow chocolate gooey-ness. You were de. lic. ious.
Aaaaaand no camping party is complete without dirt cups. Especially with colorful chewy sweet worms!
So, I had this genius idea of using small brown paper bags for the banner. I just stenciled on a letter, and hung it from clothespins on some twine. So free and so easy! Did I mention it was FREE?
With all those hoarded pine cones I had (I was becoming obsessed and collected a few too many!), I wrapped twine around the tops with a little dab of hot glue and made a really cute pine cone garland. This may double as some fall decor this year, too. I love when I can reuse stuff!
I’m really happy with how the table decor came together. My sister also had cute little wooden trees that we added in the back, too. I love when we find things around the house to use!
For favors, my sister made a cute little tag that read “take a hike!” with a graphic of a hiker. I stapled them on a little baggy filled with different kinds of trail mix. You can’t have a camping themed party without a little trail mix! BONUS: you can also print these little favor tags at the bottom of this post!
I know a lot of people like having coffee in the evening with dessert, so we thought we’d have an iced coffee bar! We had both decaf and regular coffee for people to choose from.
I really wanted to use mason jars with chalkboard labels as cups, but we didn’t have enough jars. So, I found these Etch-it cups that we etched all the guests names on. So easy, and they kind of look like chalkboard labels!
For creamers, we put different flavors into mason jars for people to use in their iced coffee.
The shower was a huge success, and we had so much fun planning and decorating! I love seeing all the ideas that go on in my head play out in a party. And, not only was this theme easy to execute, it really was super cheap! Besides the food, we had most of the decor in our houses or it was easy to make. My cousin was thrilled, and she will be blessed with her sweet little Winston come tomorrow! We’re so excited to have another little cousin to play with!
If you’re in need of invites to throw a camping themed shower yourself, my sister has an Etsy shop called Printables of Love and is selling the invites she made!
As promised, you can download and print the “take a hike!” favor tags below, by clicking on the image. They will print 6 to a page. Enjoy!
Have you ever thrown a camping themed party before? What were your favorite details?
Hi friends! Welcome to another Motivational Monday! Did you find something inspiring last week? I sure did! I hope you all are having a fun and safe holiday weekend, too! I seriously can’t BELIEVE today is Sept. 1st. Ah! When I looked at the 7 day forecast for this week, it was all in the mid 70’s. Don’t get me wrong, that’s the perfect temperature. But, it means summer is slowly slipping away. Sad day. Time to prepare myself for colder weather. My favorite part though; scarves and boots will soon be wearable again! Yay!
I’m looking forward to see what you all have been working on!
What have I been up to? Well, last week I was thrilled to be a part of the Tour Through Blogland that’s been going around! I also painted some great candle holders with chalk paint to use on my entry table. I love how they turned out!

This DIY Antler String Art by Carisa from Messes to Memories is fabulous!! I love the rustic feel to it and how she outlined the antlers by wrapping more string around the edges so they really stand out. I have a string art project planned to do soon, and Carisa’s antler string art totally gave me some motivation to get going on it! Thank you so much for sharing, Carisa!

Hello, friends! It’s been a suuuuper busy week around here. This weekend is my cousin’s 30th birthday, and his wife’s baby “sprinkle” as well. My sister and I are throwing the sprinkle, so I’ve been making decorations all week. My other cousin is also coming into town today to stay with us for all the festivities. Needless to say, I’ll be pretty quiet over the long weekend with so much going on. I’ll also be showing you details to the sprinkle in the next couple weeks! BUT, before all that happens, I wanted to share these DIY chalk painted candle holders!
I found these 3 mismatched candlesticks at a thrift store for cheap. I’ve been wanting something else to adorn my entryway table below my gallery wall, and I thought these would be perfect. I also had some leftover Folk Art Chalk paint from another project. I’m all for saving a buck and re-using!
I started by wiping down the candle holders with a wet paper towel to make sure there wasn’t any dust or dirt. I then used a paint brush to paint on the chalk paint. I let it dry about 2 hours between coats. Originally I was going to just do 2 coats, but I ended up doing 3 just because I really wanted to make sure you couldn’t see any paint brush streaks.
(I had to put paper down so you could actually see them better!)
I let them dry overnight, and in the morning, I used some sandpaper and roughed up around the edges a little. Unfortunately on some spots the paint chipped off, but I actually really liked some of the gold hints that showed through!
I probably could have gotten away with only 2 coats like the instructions suggest, because I had to sand a little longer to get the paint to distress. But it turned out just like I wanted it to. No complaints here!
They work perfectly on my table, and just in time to hold my glitter pumpkin I found at the Dollar Store. Score! It’s my first fall decoration, too. You better believe I’m trying to hang on to summer as loooooooong as possible. But this pumpkin is pretty, so it can stay.
This is an easy and quick project that can be done in a day, though I took a little longer. I love how the candle holders are mismatched, too!
This chalk paint is pretty amazing. I highly recommend using Folk Art paint! I also used it for distressing my frame in my shower thoughts towel rack. Love it!
I hope you all have a crafty, fun, and safe holiday weekend! I know I will.
Hello, friends! I’m so excited to be on this “Tour Through Blogland” with you, where you get to have an inside scoop to Dwelling in Happiness! I’ve seen other blogger’s tours, and it’s been so fun getting an inside “peak” at some of my favorite blogger’s lives. Now, it’s my turn! I was invited to share by Kendra from Joy in Our Home, and I’m so glad she asked me! Kendra is so incredibly sweet, and has some seriously amazing and delicious recipes on her blog. She also recently re-did her master bedroom, and it looks FABULOUS! Here’s a little peak:
Okay, now on to the tour!
So, in all honesty, I was a little nervous when Kendra asked me to participate. Our house is a starter house, and by no means anything glamorous. It’s one of those “cookie cutter” houses that look just like every other one on the block. We’ve slowly been doing little things here and there, but we really don’t plan on being here for very long so we haven’t done a lot. But, now we have our sweet Jade and there are baby things everywhere. All you mama’s know what I’m talking about. Her toys and “accessories” have now become part of the decor. I know it won’t last forever (and maybe a part of me wishes it would!?), but alas, that’s the way it is. This is our home, and it’s filled with so much love. That’s all that matters! Anyway, here are a few little details of inside (sorry for the poor pictures, our house doesn’t have a ton of good camera lighting!):
We spend a LOT of our summer evenings out in our small backyard. Small is totally an understatement! But 2 years ago we finally landscaped. There’s not a lot of room to work with, but we DIY’d ALL of it, and boy did a lot of blood sweat and tears go into it. I wish I had a “before” to show you!
We are so happy with how it turned out! We love eating dinner on the patio and listening to the sound of a little waterfall. Relaxing, to say the least.
There are 4 questions I get to answer while on this tour. Here goes!
*Question 1*
What am I working on?
There are a few things that I’m currently “planning” and working on. First is our gallery wall, which I’m working on updating. I’m adding a few new pieces and updating the pictures a little. Here’s a before shot:
Afters will come soon when everything is in place! I love our green wall, it gives a nice pop to our otherwise boring entry/living area! Another thing I’m working on is getting a command center in place. Right now, this is it:
Yep; that is all that keeps me currently organized, and yes; that is tape holding the calendar up. I’m that pathetic clever in how I chose to hang it. I used sticky strips on the back at first, but it fell down several times and I got tired of it. So, that silly calendar will be gone and up will be something MUCH prettier and permanent! I can’t wait to reveal how it will look soon!
Some bigger projects that are in my mind and hopefully in the mix soon will be updating our laundry room. It’s so tiny and ugly and needs some maaaaajor help. I’ve been so inspired by several small gorgeous laundry rooms that I’ve seen lately, so I need to get my rear in gear! (I rhyme!)
*Question 2*
How does my work differ from those in my genre?
This is a hard question. The DIY blogging genre has SO many crazy talented people, but what I notice is that even though several people can do the same project, they all come out differently. Because we are all unique individuals, what we produce will be unique to us and our style. I love that! I also feel my work is different because I definitely like to use color. I mean, my living room/dining room area is green with orange accents, and our master bedroom is a bright teal color! I’m not afraid to go a little color crazy!
I’m also different from other DIY bloggers because, well, I make it up as I go along! Most of the bloggers who I follow have all this knowledge and experience in woodworking or sewing. Me, well, I have none of that. I’d love to learn so I can create new and exciting things for our home, but that not only takes time, but MONEY! So, that will have to wait. But one of these days I’ll “wow” you with a hand sewn project or something of the sorts! 🙂
*Question 3*
Why do I write/Create what I do?
I have always had a love of creating things, and have gotten so much satisfaction from making or decorating something myself. I get that from my mom, who also loves to decorate and DIY! From when I was a kid, she and her friends were always making cute little gifts and decor pieces, and hosted a “boutique” every Christmas in our house to sell their items. I grew up around crafting and now, love it myself! I even loved it BEFORE Pinterest. When we got married 3 years ago, I didn’t know Pinterest existed (I think it was still super new). I handmade all of our decorations and didn’t have Pinterest to look upon for inspiration. It was a blast! Since then, I’ve had a lot of fun creating new things for our house to make it a home. It’s kind of my favorite hobby!
*Question 4*
How does my writing/creating process work?
I have to be honest. With how crazy a type-A super organized clean freak I am, my writing and creating process is kind of unorganized. Weird, right? I have no idea why that is, but basically when it’s time to write, I sit down and write. Not much rhyme or reason! I write what comes to mind, and I use the pictures I have taken to help me. I’m an editing freak (teacher in me!), so I reread my posts usually 3 to 4 times before publishing. I also ask my husband for his input, as I like to have someone other than myself look it over and give their 2-sense. He always has good ideas!
As far as my creating process, that also just kind of “happens.” Usually I’ll be in a room and an idea will spark, or I’ll be looking on Pinterest and come across something I want to try putting my own spin on. I really should plan things better, but usually I just get whatever materials I’ll think I need and go for it! Sometimes things come out better than I expect, other times, not so much. I think that is part of the fun! I also use lists GALORE (that teacher in me comes out everywhere!) when I create. I make lists of materials I need, where to get them from, etc. The hardest part about creating for me, is time. I ALWAYS think something is going to be quicker than it is. I usually think, “Ok, I can totally hammer this project out during Jade’s nap”. Not. It’s usually over the span of 2 or 3 naps (and days!). I try to remember to take pictures while I work, but a lot of the time I get so excited to just do the project and see the end result that I forget! I’m working on it.
As long as I’m being so honest, I’ll also tell you that I’m a huge procrastinator. Yep, definitely NOT the teacher in me. But, it just sort of happens. I get busy with Jade and really try not to do any blog stuff while she’s awake during the day so I can focus my time on her. So, that usually means scrambling like crazy during her naps and after she’s in bed to get my posts written and on the blog. Often times, I’m finishing it up the night before. Oops! Someday I’ll have a more organized way of getting my posts up. For now, it’s when I can get it done!
I hope you have enjoyed my tour! I have learned SO much already in my one month of blogging. I have met some amazingly sweet and talented ladies who I love to follow, and I’m so blessed and inspired by them. And, I really couldn’t have gotten going without the love and support of my wonderful hubby, David. He’s my rock! If you want to know a little more about who we are, you can read it in my about me section.
And now, I’ll share with you the 3 lovely ladies who I invited to participate in this tour through Blogland. Make sure you visit them and check back in a week to read their tours as well!
