This quick and easy farmhouse style burlap lampshade is a perfect way to update any plain lamp in your home! Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in Happiness

I’m so excited to be joining some of my talented bloggy friends for their #monthlyDIYchallenge! This month the item was burlap ribbon and we teamed up with Kenarry: Ideas for the Home, who now has their fabulous burlap ribbon on Amazon! It was so fun working with it and coming up with something to create!

Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in HappinessI have to say, at first I was definitely challenged trying to figure out what to use the burlap ribbon for. It’s much easier to use regular burlap for projects than a smaller roll of it. But, I never back down from a challenge!

I have a little lamp at the top of our stairs I had bought from Ross right when we moved into the house. It totally didn’t go with my style, but I just needed something right away and it was super inexpensive. I’ve been meaning to do something with it. The burlap ribbon was the perfect thing to spruce it up!

Before I updated the lampshade, I painted the lamp itself with a few coats of white chalk paint. Originally, the lamp was silver with glass balls. Not my favorite! Painting it all white really changed the look, as did adding the burlap to the lampshade. It’s such an easy way to give a lamp new life, and it literally will take you 10 minutes tops! My favorite kind of project.

Supplies:

  • Lampshade
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Thick ribbon (any color)
  • Thin lace
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun and glue sticks

You could also use regular burlap and cut it to fit, but this burlap ribbon was the perfect size, right at 5″ wide (and 10 yards long!), and the edges are all sewn so there’s no fraying! Win-win in my book!

To start, I cut off the end of the burlap ribbon so it was straight, then hot glued the ends down onto the middle of the shade. I made sure my glued end is on the seam of the lampshade, since that will be in the back and no one will see it.

Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in HappinessI rolled the burlap ribbon around the shade, then pulled it tight and cut it right where I needed to glue it down at the seam. Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in HappinessI then rolled out my teal ribbon and did the same, measuring it around the lampshade and then gluing the end down right in the middle of the burlap at the seam of the shade.

Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in HappinessI did the same as above for the lace, making sure it was centered on the ribbon.

Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in HappinessThat’s it! I told you it was quick and easy, right?! I don’t lie.

Quick and Easy Farmhouse Style Burlap Lampshade // Dwelling in HappinessSuch a simple way to get that pretty farmhouse style I love! And, to cover up an ugly lamp I didn’t like. 😉
